- Debit Card Changes
Better Banks is currently in the process of upgrading our debit/ATM provider and effective October 4, 2010 your current debit card will no longer be valid. Your new Better Banks Visa® debit or ATM card will be mailed to you prior to that date and can be used as of October 4, 2010. Please note that the cards you are currently using will not be active after October 3, 2010; so please destroy your current card after this date.
This change means more convenience for you! Your new card is part of the Shazam® Network of ATMs and will offer all the same features as your current card with more access to surcharge free ATMs! Additional benefits include PIN reset from your phone and real time balance updates.
If you do not receive your new card by Monday, September 27th, please call the bank at 309-272-1000 as soon as possible to ensure you get your new card before October 4th.

Q: When will my old card be inactive and my new card active?
A: Your old card will be active through October 3, 2010 and your new card will be active on October 4, 2010.
Q: When will I get my new card?
A: Your new card will be mailed to you in September. Should you not receive your new card by September 27, 2010, please call the bank at 309-272-1000 and let us know.
Q: Can I use my new card prior to October 4th?
A: No, even if you receive your card and PIN beforehand, your new card will not be active until October 4th.
Q: Will my card have a new number?
A: Yes, your new card will have a new number so any automatic payments or connected accounts to that card will need to be updated.
Q: When will I get my PIN?
A: You will get your new PIN (personal identification number) in the mail shortly after your new card arrives.
Q: What if I would like to select a different PIN?
A: If you wish to change your PIN, contact the bank and we'll walk you through how to choose your PIN using a touchtone telephone.
And, you don't even have to wait for your new PIN to arrive. As soon as you get your new card you can select a new PIN by phone. If you change it prior to October 4th, you can use your chosen PIN when the new card becomes active on the 4th.
Q: What do I do with my old card?
A: Please securely dispose of your old card on October 4th, if you are unsure of how to do this, you can bring it to the bank and we can dispose of it for you.
Q: How do I activate my new card?
A: You can activate your new card on or after October 4th by performing any PIN (not your signature) based transaction, either at an ATM or a merchant.
Q: What are the main benefits of this upgrade?
A: There are many additional benefits with your new card. The main ones are extended access to surcharge free ATMs with "Privileged Status", Falcon® Fraud Manager, PIN reset from your home, and real-time balance updates.
Q: What is Falcon Fraud Manager?
A: Falcon monitors your card for suspicious activity. This is a great new service to help you feel more confident that your debit card transactions are as secure as possible. If there is suspicious activity, a Fraud Manger will contact you to be sure the transaction is valid. If it is a case of fraud, the manager will work with you to resolve the situation. Possible remedies may include: reporting the activity, closing your card and issuing you a new one.
Q: What do "Real Time Balance Updates" mean?
A: Real Time Balance Updates mean that your debit purchases are now posted to your account in "real time" when you perform them. No more waiting hours or days to see how a transaction has affected your balance.
Q: What is "Privileged Status" ATM?
A: Privileged Status allows you access to a wide network of ATMs where you'll be able to access them surcharge free. The ATMs of other participating Privileged Status financial institutions will be marked with a Privileged Status logo. You can search for a Privileged Status ATM in a specific area using the Privileged Status ATM Locater (see below).
